REASON #24 – NOURISH COWICHAN

The Cowichan Valley is a place where people care about each other and want to help. Nourish Cowichan is a great example of that. In 2016, Anita Carroll, Fatima da Silva and Dina Holbrook, recognized the problems that hunger was creating in one of the local schools. Lack of food led to a lack of energy, leading to lethargy and an inability to focus on learning. Starting with one school as a pilot project, they began providing breakfasts to these children. Teachers and aides started reporting an improvement almost immediately. As of January 2020, Nourish supplies meals and snacks to 13 schools, 3 daycares, the Maternity Clinic at Cowichan District Hospital, we have started our first cooking classes, and there is more to come. Nourish Cowichan has been essential during the COVID-19 crisis and without this group many children would have gone hungry. Read more about this amazing organization.
